Andy Alexander
www.digiala.comWhere are you from? I was born in Naples Florida. But, I grew up and spent most of my time in Orlando, Florida.
Design Education: I currently have under my belt a Web Design Certification from Sessions.Edu an Accredited online New Media Design School. And I'm in the process of obtaining an Associates in Web Design from The International Academy of Design and Technology in Orlando.
Could you share with our viewers the history behind Digiala:
The history behind digiala... "{digi-all-ah} a word created by combining four words. The words that are used to create the definition are. DIGItal Andy Lee Alexander."
How would you describe your style of work? I see my style of work as a mystery...if you look hard enough you will always find something within something.
What are your thoughts on community sites such as DIK, InFront and Pacdesco? They are all Kick Ass Concepts! They help little guy designers (like me) get there names out and into the open markets.
Speaking of Pacdesco, as you know it is a brand new community just launched January 1, 2004 Do you have any feedback on our site regarding design, content, etc.? The site has a great overall feel to it. I love the graphics ... gives people like me great inspiration!
If there were one thing you could change about Adobe Photoshop what would it be? The price... but talent that good should be expensive.
Did you go from creating art and then move into graphic design? Or was it the other way around?I used to draw and sketch a lot but then I started to teach myself about computer graphics. It's almost like going for cassettes to CDs.
Have you ever worked with someone who personally inspired you, if so who and why? I never really worked with anyone up close that inspired me. But, I have had teachers in the past that were always very encouraging and helped me in any way possible. I guess there was some inspiration involved in a way...
There are many trends that come and go in the Design Industry, what trend do you see that does not look like will last? Trends are easy to come by and one of the big trends that I've noticed is everyone seems to use the plus sign. Are they trying to out do Hewlett Packard? I think that trend may die down soon ... but you never know.
Your other websites have nothing to do with New Media Design, I like that. Are Bonsai Trees, Gardening and Financial Aid your other professions or is it more like a hobby? Can you elaborate on your answer? Some of the sites I design are more of a hobby for me. I create sites such as these to entertain and/or educate people. They keep me busy for the most part and they let me express my skills.
What do you feel is the hardest job being a Graphic Designer? Designers Block...
What do you do besides design? Photography, create bonsai trees, teach friends HTML, buy crap on ebay, and sell crap on ebay.
Do you prefer technologically advanced websites or sites with good and simple design? I would love to see a lot more simple sites but, with detailed graphics.
How would you describe something that's over designed? I believe nothing can be over designed. But, I do believe something can be under designed.
Do you think Flash is cool or overused? I think some site overuse it a bit.... My only reason for this is that not everyone has a Cable modem.... So why waste the time to create a kick ass flash site when only a small percentage of people have DSL or cable modems...
Do you think Design Education is important for today's designers or artistic qualities is sufficient? Can you elaborate on your answer? I think education is very important it helps people learn new styles of design. Because, not everyone was born with a pencil in their hand.
Any new projects you would like to share?.....nope
We really appreciate you doing this interview. Do you have any last comments you would like to add?My advice to any aspiring web/graphics designer just because you know a little bit about HTML. Don't go opening a fly by night company... it makes other designers look bad. Please take the time and teach yourself something new. Thanx!
